Town Hall Mayoral meetings across Newton to discuss the city´s budget - starting Feb 7 ... Feb 28
Dear Newton Citizens:
I am excited to be emailing you for the first time as Mayor of Newton. While I am not currently
planning a regular newsletter, I will be using this email list to reach out from time to time
when I have important things to share.
As you know, our city faces significant challenges. Roads and buildings have been neglected
for years and require investment. Health care and pension liability is skyrocketing and costs
will need to be contained. The Governor has promised level funding local aid and fully
funding Chapter 70 for our schools, but the state budget won't be finalized for many months.
Over the months and years ahead difficult choices will need to be made to preserve what is
best about Newton while living within our means and not over-burdening our current
taxpayers or future residents.
I´d like to continue our conversation by inviting you all to join me at a series of Town Hall style
meetings across Newton to discuss the city´s budget. The budget plays a key role in shaping
the city and the way we choose to allocate our funds is a reflection of our priorities. As I said
during my campaign, I intend to reach out to residents, listen to their concerns, respond to
their questions openly and honestly, and then make the critical decisions necessary.
Each meeting will include a brief presentation followed by a discussion between the Mayor
and residents. All meetings are free and open to the public. Feel free to contact the my office
at 617-796-1100 with any questions. A full schedule of meetings is below. I look forward to
seeing you there.
Best,
Mayor Setti Warren
